Failed BACKUP ...

Have a 60 G USB drive with over 35 G free and accessible.
While attempting to BACKUP a Windows 2000 Pro (full
updates) I get a disk error which says it is reaching an
end of media aftetr 4 G's. Any thoughts?

FAT has a 4GB file size limitation. Use NTFS for larger files.
