Locking a drive letter to a NAS drive?

I currently have a Freecom NAS drive, which under normal
circumstances appears as drive G: (after two hard drives
and two optical drives). My backup software automatically
backs up to G: on first login of each user, each day.

A problem arises when one of the kids connect a USB device
(phone, camera etc) before logging in and that device gets
picked up as drive G:, bumping the NAS drive down to F:

The backups then fail, and even rebooting the system without
a USB device plugged in doesn't restore the NAS drive to G:
I also have other things on the G: drive which the system
expects to find (eg Firefox bookmarks), and this causes
further problems.

I know I can reallocate the drive letter back to G: using the
Disk Management function within Computer Management,
but this gets a bit inconvenient, especially if I'm away for a
few days.

Is it possible to lock the NAS drive to G: in some way?

Hi David,

Could you not reassign the drive letter to, say, N: and then point
your backup software, etc. to N:?

There is no build in mechanism for that. If installing
a 3rd party software is an option then you can try my
USB drive letter manager 'USBDLM':

All you need then is an USBDLM.INI with

[ExcludedLetters]
Letter1=G

Then G: will never be used again for USB drives.
