fading in AND out of pictures in Powerpoint

I'm trying to create a slide which shows 7 pictures placed intermittently on
a page. I've got them all fading in at different intervals. Now how do I get
them to fade out - AND at specific times (so that some may overlap while some
disappear). We're talking multiple custom animations. Is this possible?

What version of PowerPoint are you using?

Hi v-mom,

The reason that tohlz is asking for your version of Powerpoint is that a new
feature called "exit transitions" appear recently. It's certainly in
Powerpoint 2003. It will do exactly what you're describing.

If you're not sure what version you're on, open Powerpoint, click on Help,
and then About Powerpoint.

If you are using a version that predates exit transitions, don't worry. You
can simply use multiple slides to cause your images to "disappear". Use a
fade transition between slides, and retain all other stationary objects
(like text or borders) between the slides.

The only problem you might have with the multi-slide approach is that
earlier versions of Powerpoint (maybe 97 and 2000) had a bug in their
inter-slide fade transition. When hi-colour settings were used on the
monitor the fade effect took place in slow motion and frankly looked awful
:)

Check this out before you spend too much time on the presentation. The
dissolve effect is an alternative, but these days it looks pretty lame
compared to a proper fade effect.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Geoff
