F6...ok...but where are the drivers?

I want to install my new hard drive, western digital 160 gig SATA 2nd
gneration.

From what i've gathered so far i have to set my bios in Raid0 for a single
drive and then do F6 during install, for the third party scsii drive thing.

Where are those darn drivers that are suppose to be on a floppy???

I know i'll have to copy them myself on the floppy but where are they??

Config: P4 3gig HT, Asus mobo P4P800SE with Intel 865PE + ICH5, Western hard
drive 160 gig SATA 2nd generation(WD1600JS)

Western Digitsal should have provided you with a floppy that has the drivers
on it. When you press F6 during the install process Windows automatically
reads the floppy and you are shown a screen with the list of drivers (if
there are drivers for different versions of Windows on the floppy). Are you
not bening shown the list?

If you have a SATA drive why would you be selecting a "third party scsii
drive thing"? (Your statement)

RAID requires two identical harddrives to be installed on your system. Who
says you select RAID0 if you have only one drive?

On the CD that came with the motherboard or you can download them from
Asus's site.

The drivers wouldn't come from Western Digital... they would come from the
manufacturer of the SATA controller.

In the OP's case, this would come from Asus or Intel.

YOU have to put the appropriate drivers on the floppy.

Do you have the mainboard manual? if not, it's available for download
(support.asus.com). (The P4P800SE is a Socket 478 mainboard.)

If you're not using a RAID0 pair, the "configure S-ATA as RAID" should be
left at the default setting (no). If memory serves, you won't need any
additional drivers, if you are using the Intel SATA controller. (It has been
more than a year since I installed a single SATA drive on the similar
P4P800, so the memory is fading.)

Should you need the SATA drivers for some reason, the manual suggests using
a makedisk utiltiy on the Asus source CD to prepare a floppy.

Alternately, download the drivers from support.asus.com. What you'll be
getting is a version of the "Intel Application Accelerator". It's a 7+ MB
download. When you unzip it, you'll find a makedisk utility there also.
There a manual methods for extracting the proper files to a floppy, but it's
easier to use the utility.

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

They've always come on a floppy with the motherboard for me... along with
the rest of the chipset drivers that are on the CD.

Thank you all very much for all your input...i'll extract the drivers myself
and/or try the Intel utility Application accelerator. Thanks again!!!

The Intel utility will not provide you with the drivers for the install.
They will only provide the "enhanced" drivers and only for a select series
of chipsets. Depending on your motherboard, they may not be
required/usable.

If i knew then what i know now i'd stayed with regular ide hd....this is a
bit of a nightmare. Thanks a bunch Jason, thing is my Ultra ATA controller
are not compatible with this version of intel floppy utility mine are 82801EB
and the ones on the link you gave are 82801ER.

I'm a bit tired with all this.....since my drive is alive and well,
installation went witout a hitch. Thanks!!

You don't want the IAA.
This is what you want.
