extracting individual clips from timeline

Does anyone know if you can extract an individual clip from a timeline (and
save it to a movie file)?
 
you can't save just part of a timeline as a movie

but you can save the project (foo.mswmm)
then save the project under another name (bar.mswmm)
then delete everything but the part you want to save as a movie file and
publish just that (bar.wmv)
then reopen (foo.mswmm)
