How do you 'see' the file structure? I backed up to a go drive, and all I
have is a file called 'backup day-month' that I cannot expand??

You need to open the file with the backup software you used to see it's
contents.

Zim zim, ala bim, the spirits are about to speak. What? Say that
again? Huh? Sorry, the batteries in my crystal ball are too weak to
see your computer and whatever UNIDENTIFIED backup program you happened
to use.

Did the UNIDENTIFIED backup program include a manual or help files?
Good chance they tell you how to look at the backup files to extract
single files (if the backup program actually saves files versus saving
an image).
