Extra windows popping up AFTER reinstall of MS Word 2003

Hi all,
This a.m., I uninstalled and reinstalled MS Office Suite 2003. (Because of
an issue I was having with mail merge/Outlook. The issue has been resolved,
but others have cropped up. It will take awhile to get things back to normal,
but this is driving me crazy. I generally have several documents opened in
Word; in the past I could switch between them using the menu at the top
"window" and choosing the one I wanted to edit. Since the reinstall,
everytime I open a *blank* document a completely new window opens - as though
it were a new application.
I've looked around and can't find the remedy in the program. Nor can I find
the answer in the help files.
Please help - my hair is turning grey! Thanks!

In Word 2002 or 2003, click on Tools | Options | View tab | uncheck the
"Windows in Taskbar" box | OK.

I came back to the problem and tried your suggestion again. This time, I
rebooted and it worked. Thanks very much!
