Word 2003 pops up extra window when opening a doc

When I open a ...doc with MS Word 2003 and when there is another minimized
page on the Taskbar it will pop up just behind the page I have opened,
covering other windows on the Desktop.

How does one put a stop to this?

Clear the "Windows in taskbar" option in Tools | Options, View tab. Then
minimize just the document, not the application, before opening another
document.

Thanks, Stefan,

That appears to work, but it feels like a bit of a kludge. And, of course,
it means I no longer see the documents in the Taskbar.

I can't find an earlier reply that suggested I try something in Safe Mode.
I've had trouble finding out how to get this Lenovo laptop into Safe Mode;
so, this suggestion is better than that.

"Safe Mode" means hold Ctrl while opening Word. (Nothing to do with
the status of the computer.)

I couldn't find that e-mail because it was on a different Newsgroup. Here it
is:

Try opening Word in Safe Mode and testing again. From Start, Run (Winkey+R),
type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word opens in Safe Mode. Open a document and then minimise
to the Taskbar. Now open another document. Does it still do the same?

"Safe Mode" means hold Ctrl while opening Word. (Nothing to do with
the status of the computer.)
