Mark

Hi:

For some reason, an icon callel "Internet Gateway" has appeared next to my
LAN connection icon. It appears to slow down my connection also.

Any solutions to this issue?

Thank you so much,
Mark

It represents your router. If you want to prevent it from
showing up in the Network Connections folder, do the following;

In Network Connections, under "Other Places" in the left hand
column, click on My Network Places.
In My Network Places under "Network Tasks" in the left hand
column, click on "Hide icons for networked UPnP devices".
Restart your computer and check Network Connections. The
Internet Gateway icon should no longer be displayed.

I'm not enough of a networking expert to tell you what the
ramifications are when you hide this icon. I leave it in place
because it provides an easy way of accessing the router's
configuration page. I think you're going to find that this is
not the source of your network slowness.

If you're having problems with your network connection you
might want to post your questions to the
microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web newsgroup.

Good luck
