I have about a dozen shortcuts to network places that no
longer exist. I delete them, but they come back. Is
there a way to "refresh" the shortcuts or delete them for
good?

By default, Windows XP scans the network for shared disks and folders
and automatically puts shortcuts to them into My Network Places. To
disable that function:

1. Click Tools | Folder Options | View.
2. Un-check "Automatically search for network folders and printers".

However, it shouldn't be finding any network places that don't exist.
Before disabling that function, try right-click/delete on the
undesired shortcuts and then reboot.

Steve,

That's what I thought was supposed to happen. I'll look
further into the problem.
