"extra" FP folders on web server

Do the frontpage generated folders: _borders _private
_vti_cnf and _vti_pvt need to be loaded to the web for
internet users to experience the web page? I have been
afraid to delete them for fear of removing some format
feature or display funtion to viewers who may be using any
of various web browsers (all of which I can not test)

Do not touch those folders on your PC. They contain information and pages
needed to edit your web.

As for publishing, don't even think about copying the _vti_pvt or
_vti_anything folders. They are not needed on a non-extended web, and if
copied, will corrupt an extended web.

If the website has FrontPage extensions then all the other folders are
required. If you publish with FrontPage (required for FP extensions) they
will be uploaded as needed.
If the website does not have FP extensions, if those folders are empty, they
are not needed.

Yes. they are to do with the functionality of Frontpage and are vital . Normally
these folders are hidden so you'd not normally know they existed.

They are for the "server side" features of the extensions (and other things such
as editing the live site), so it is not a concern to worry about browser
compatibility as such (not like javascript for example that relies on the user
having it turned on).
