Extra Document1 when Opening Outlook Attachments

Hi,

When MS-Word is not open, and I double-click a Word attachment in Outlook to
open it, MS-Word opens, and I have an empty Document1 plus the Word
attachment open. Is there a way to eliminate the empty Document1 so only the
attachment is open?

TIA Marie

One more observation - this doesn't just happen with Outlook attachments.
The extra Document1 appears if Word is closed, and I double-click a document
saved on my desktop as well. Word then opens, and I am left with a Document1
plus the document saved on my desktop. I would like to eliminate the
Document1. This is Word 2003/Outlook 2003/Windows XP environment. The extra
Document1 does not appear on our Word 2000/Outlook 2000/Windows 2000
environment.

TIA again. Marie

It sounds like your Word file association is missing the /n switch
which suppresses a new document when you double-click a document to
open it outside the Word application.. Rather than trying to manually
edit it you can re-create the file associations. Go to Start/Run and
run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.

Thanks, Beth.

I figured out it was caused by one of the procedures in the autoexec module
of one of my global startup templates causing the problem. I have resolved
it this morning.

Have a good day! Marie
