macro not opening dot file as document1

I created a template called Letterhead.dot by saving it as a template. When
I double click the file it opens up correctly as Document1 and I'm able to
save it as a document when I click save. But when I open it with a macro, it
says Letterhead.dot instead of Document1 and saves it as a template

When you double-click a .dot file, the default action is New rather than
Open. If you have a macro to *open* the file, then that is the problem.

well, thanx for the tip...it took me awhile to figure it, so for the benefit
of those struggling with this problem, let me be more explicit...click
Tools/Macro/Record New Macro. Give it a name, click OK. Click File/New. This
opens a window to the right. Go to "New from existing document" and click
"Choose document." Then choose the folder where the dot file is and double
click it. That opens up the file, except it creates a "new" file instead of
"open". Suzanne, is that right?

The macro that Jezebel provided will be more efficient.
