Changing default new doc name to always be document1

Hey,

I see in other posts a reference to this question already being answered,
but I can't find the answer anywhere!

As we all know, in Word 2003, when you first open a new doc, it's called
document1, if you open another one, it's document2, etc. Even if you save
document1.doc as some other name first and then open a new doc, it's still
called document2.doc.

In the latter case, how can we get it to always be called document1.doc, if
no other documentX.doc file is currently open?

We also use Outlook 2003 as an IMAP client (no exchange) but do have the
setting of using Word as the email editor.

Maybe you must save your document in other name.
For example, you open new document..it will show document1.doc
if you want open new again document with name document1.doc, you must
save document which you have finished in first document.
So document1.doc you save to another name.

No, as she said, the next one will be Document2. The way to get
another Document1 is to quit Word and then start it again.

(But why do you want Document1 every time?)

The temporary document name is Document1 not Document1.doc. The document
doesn't have a name until it is saved. Word will increment the temporary
file name by 1 each time a new document is created for as long as Word
remains open. Even more complex, if you have both Word 2003 and 2007
installed and open, then they share the same incrementing number system. So
if you open Word 2003 and its document is Document1 Opening Word 2007 will
create Document2. There is no way to ensure that every temporary document is
Document1 (nor should there be any need to do that) unless you close all
running versions of Word. then re-opeon Word.
