External USB 2.0/ Firewire combo problems

Connected to the Firewire port my Microstorage drive doesn't start, but is found by Windows XP Professional. Using the USB 2.0 port the drive works, but leave an error message in the event viewer. Anyone with a solutions ???
 
Are you getting the proper power on the ports, both Firewire
and USB should be able to supply power to be fully
functional. Some PCI cards require a power tap plug-in.
