external LCD monitor support

Hi there,
I have an XP sp2 laptop. I am trying to attach a 19" LCD monitor,
first tried wide format and it does not work, image is cut off on all
sides, next tried a normal 19" LCD and still seems to cut off the
start menu, I tried changing the resolution. Is there anything I can
do about it?

"Wide format" is not an option provided by WinXP settings.

Select a resolution with an aspect ratio of 16:9, eg. 1280x720 in
case that you're talking about a 19" wide screen display.

Please read the docs that came with your monitor. As you video card has
to support the resolution it calls for for best results. Sometimes one
can download for free updated video drivers to work with your new 19
incher.
