External Hard Drive Problem

Hi!

I have an Acomdata 160GB External Hard Drive with USB 2.0 connection.
I have used it for a while and it has been good. Recently I've had
problems with connectivity and realized one of the prongs on the hard
drive's USB plug is bent. Does anyone know anywhere I can get this
plug replaced or fixed. Thanks.

You should be able to buy an enclosure and just put the drive in a new
enclosure.

My first thought as well. Are all enclosure bios the same? That is, are
all hard drives interpreted equally by all enclosure bios? Thinking about
CHS, data loss, and readability of the partition(s), file table, and file
locations.

I have never seen a pure enclosure (Non-NAS) device have any issues with
just attaching it to another box/put in another controller. COULD there
a problem, sure... but I REALLY doubt it.

Why ask here? This has nothing to do with the OS.

Ask elsewhere.

Doubt it. Based on what?

Doubt it based on my experience with a wide variety of these things. I
haven't replaced drives on too many but when I have, there hasn't been
any issue.

A NAS device is another story. But a USB hard drive - I would doubt
there will be a problem.
