external drive access

The only way I can have my users use an external drive is to give them
administrative rights on my domain, which is not good. Does anyone have any
suggestions for me to eliminate admin rights to my users?

Although I'm not on a domain, my limited user can access the same External
Firewire HDD as the admin account. Have you set some strange permissions
perhaps?

I have no special permissions, just a usual XP setup with mapped drives,
ofcourse when the external drive is plugged in, I cannot format it, I get a
permissions error? I suppose XP thinks it is a network drive?

I think you need to have Admin rights to *format* a HDD - as opposed to a
floppy. Have you loged in as an Admin and tried to format the ext HDD? Once
it's formatted, than all accounts should have access to it unless you
specifically deny anyone.

I understand that, the problem is we are a transportation facility and we
have those cards in all of our buses, I don't want to have to go downstairs
to log the pc into admin mode in order to have it formated? My technician
should be able to do that, and giving him admin rights cannot happen since he
is lethal on the network? I wish it would see it as a local drive and give
him access to it?
