External CD ROM drive not working

M

Michael Amos

When I plug in an Addonics External USB CD ROM drive into the unit with my
WinXPE image, it detects a TEAC CD-232E drive. It also complains that I am
plugging a High-Speed USB device into a non High-Speed USB controller. In
device manager, the TEAC CD-232 device stays yellow. I added USB Mass
Storage Device, USB Root Hub, TEAC USB CD-ROM Drive and Addonics USB Storage
Device to my target image and it still did not resolve this issue. I have
not been able to find the appropriate drivers for this device for Windows
XP.

When I plug the drive into my Windows XP professional unit, it detects it
and everything works fine. The Windows XP professional computer also
complains about the High-Speed USB device.

What can I do to resolve this problem? Is there some way to determine what
is missing within the Embedded image? Can I generate the files from my
Windows XP Professional and build an SLD file?

Thanks,

Michael

Michael,

I have seen this message too when I connected a USB v2.0 CD-ROM into a USB
v1.1 port. You might want to check the hardware to see which USB version the
port is.

The USB ports are USB 1.1 type A. I only see USB 2.0 in the target
designer. What component do I need to add/remove for USB 1.1?

Michael,

Okay, the physical ports are USB 1.1, and I suspect that the USB CD-ROM is a
2.0 device. This is a hardware issue and not a software issue. Transfers can
still occur, but at the slower rate. The warning message is telling you
about the trasnfer rate difference. If you can, try installing a USB 2.0
port card in your target system and connect the CD-ROM.

That was how it was set up. The problem is that it detects a TEAC CD-232
Drive in Device manager and has a yellow exclamation point on it. I
contacted the vendor and they said that they do not have drivers for the CD
ROM since it complies with Microsoft's USB Mass Compliant devices. I made
sure that I had USB Mass Storage device added to the image. I just cannot
figure out what I need to add to the image to get it to detect the drive.
