External CD Burner

Using WinXP-Pro with an Iomega external burner

I am using Memorex CDs with 700meg capacity. However, after burning off a
few files with the XP file burner, I get the message that the disk is full
and the CD Writing Wizard Cannot Complete Writing to the CD.

When I check the properties of the disk in the burner, it says it has
anywhere from 16 to 36 meg of "used" space and "no free space" left.

I'm stumped. Anyone have any help?

I would check the Iomega web site to see if any other
customers have encountered the same problem with the same
model drive and the same software.

I would also borrow a blank CD from a friend and see if a
different brand yields different results.

It's possible that there is a setting in the burner
software that says to limit the amount of data or that the
default is to use a mini-CD, one with far less capacity.

Good Luck !

I have already tried various brands and run into the same problem. I also
did the reverse. I took one of my CDs to my friend's computer and got the
full 700 meg filled with pictures and data files with no problem.

Thanks for trying.

Hello, There is no mention of the software being used. Please check the
settings, it maybe setup to close and not allow continue write option. Can
you copy disc to disc? Is there the same problem copying different file
types ie: mp3,wma etc.? Go to the software site and check for updates. They
may have a group site for help. Try removing and reinstalling if nothing else
works. If you are using HotBurn Pro try the www.valusoft.com site.
Will suggest you try different software, CD BurnerXP Pro3 is freeware.
Microsoft Media 10 can also burn.
Take Care.

Though I mentioned that I just use the XP CD Writing feature. Did not load
any other burning software. The XP help indicates that their burning
function fully supports multi-session burns, so I don't know why the disk is
recognized as "full" with only between 16 and 36 meg of material.

Thanks for your response, though.

Hello, Apologize for my oversite.
Have you posted to Windows Media Player groups? There is the possibility of
checking for Media Player updates and also uninstalling Media Player 10 and
reinstalling.
Had a problem like yours but with different software never found the
soluton. The company suggested that one of the MS updates may have caused the
problem. In my case I installed other software. The time to find a fix may
take hours and downloading a free program that can be used takes about 20/30
minutes, giving you a backup program while you find a way to correct the
Media Player problem.
Did your Iomega external drive come with a Hot Burn Pro software package?
The one I purchased and have on second unit with Windows98SE works well using
HotBurn Pro. Can't be of real assistance, sorry.
Take Care.
