Extension editor?

Anybody know of a good extension editor? I'm trying to change some
settings for mpg files and windows media player keeps hijacking them,
its driving me op the wall.

Thanks, but i'm looking for a way to edit extensions. I have problems
with other things as well.

I'm assuming you want to change the default program for opening certain file
types? Simplest way is to right click the file, select "open with", check
the box to "Always use this program..." then browse to the exe you want.
Alternatively (and if you want to add actions) it is easy enough via
Start>Folder Options>File Types.

If the settings don't stick it is because you need to change the options in
the hijacking program.

My first choice would be WAssociate:

Second choice would be File Assocaition Editor:

Both are well written, both are freeware, my personal preference is the
former, but YMMV.

I find Context Edit the easiest to use. Hard to find, but v1.1 is here :

Context Edit is definitely hard to find, in the past you needed to
take out a sub to the magazine to get it but is also at
http://sac-ftp.externet.hu/utilfile5.html along with many other good

Yes i know. But if that *ACTUALLY WORKED* i would need this. As i wrote,
media player keeps changing the associations back to itself.

If the settings don't stick it is because you need to change the options in
the hijacking program.

Which i keep doing, and it keeps setting them back as well.

I haven't a clue but when I saw "extension" editor my first thought
was file renamers. . . didn't sound like that was what you wanted. . .
