I am experiencing some issues with the login time for my XP Pro (with sp2)
machine in a Server 2003 environment. I first noticed this when my internet
connection was down. After logging in the computer sticks at "Applying
computer settings" for an extended period of time. What is the cause of
this? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

please refer to my answer to the question just below yours. i don't think
we will ever, ever, get a real stable OS from Microsoft. Do you realize
that Win 2000, and hence, certainly XP, is compiled from over 2 billion
lines of code? Unix, considered one of the most stable OSs out there, is
only about 600k lines of code. (and yes, software engineering is my
profession, if you question my credibility)

I close the lid on my laptop XP, and it never does the same thing twice when
it comes back up. And I close the lid the same way, each time. Sometimes
I have to hit the power button, sometimes I don't. Sometimes it brings me
right back to where I left off, sometimes it does not. It's just a roll of
the dice with M$ bud, deal with it. At least, luckily, is saves, and does
not destroy files.

as Dave Barry put it in an article I read, "saying XP is the most robust
Microsoft OS yet, is like saying an artichoke is the most articulate
vegetable I have ever met".

get it?
