Requesting network resource requires guest login

R

Ren

My problem:

Every time I attempt to connect to problem Computer B network resources with
Computer A it request that i login with the guest account (Which is currently
off on computer B). But on computer B it can still access network resources
without requiring a log-in of any form.

Computer B is:
-Newly formatted SP3 Windows XP pro
-Has a norton 360 Firewall but has no blocking rules on the 4 ports for
filesharing
-is under the same workgroup name as all the other computers
-guest account is turned off by default

I wish to resolve this issue so i can use resources on Computer B such as
the printer. Ill be glad to detail more information.

Open either MyComputer or Explorer.
On the Menu bar click Tools > Folder Options.
Click the View tab, scroll to the bottom, uncheck Simple File Sharing, click
Apply > Ok > Ok,

No - just follow Usenet custom. MOST people who post here do NOT use the
horrible web interface - they use a NEWSREADER and so may not even SEE
the "person who replied before that message" whatever that may mean.

I don't know, because you didn't quote anything.

(sorry im a bit aggitated this damn networking is frustrating)
But what would this help achieve? isnt it reccomended on?

R

Ren

its off, it prompts me for a login, and i type in administrator and no
password and enter, i faintly remeber turning off the security option for
having non-blank passwords. Is it simple as that? And this is quite the crude
fix.

Is there any explanation?

Ren

Dear brian, but it doesnt happen vice versa and with other computers i use.
So why this? Corrupt dll somewhere?

With "Simple File Sharing" disabled Right click the folder that's to be
shared.
Click either "Sharing and Security" or "Properties" in the popup menu.
Click the Sharing tab > Permissions button.
Give "Everyone" full premission > Ok out.
Do the Same for the Security tab.
