I have XP Pro. A couple days ago, Explorer started freaking out.
Sometimes it comes up fine after restart but then begins to "blink on
and off." Things look normal for a few seconds, then Start button,
desktop icons, and toolbars disappear leaving only a plain blue screen.
Then normal again. There is not enough time to start an app or
anything before the screen goes blue again. Other times when I
restart, just the plain blue screen appears. C+Alt+Del will bring up
Task Mgr., but if I try to do any work here, the blue screen appears
after a few seconds and Task Mgr. goes away. I can bring it back, but
only for a few seconds and nothing can get done.
This only happens on my user. I am the admin user on this PC. Two
other users seem to have not been effected.
I've tried several system restore points, but I still have the problem
on my user. I've tried booting in Safe mode, but blinks on and off as
described above.
I have tons of files not accessable from the other users, so I have to
be very careful about how I restore my user, the admin user, to
functionality.
Any ideas appreciated. A remedy would be very much appreciated.
