Windows Explorer is the operating systems' graphical user interface.
Problems with it could be caused by software or hardware. Since you've told
us nothing beyond "it's broken", we can't give you focused troubleshooting.
Please see this link for what details you need to include in your next
newsgroup post:

In the meantime, here are general troubleshooting links:

A lot depends on whether or not you can get into Safe Mode. If you can, then
also check the Event Viewer for clues:
Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

The first question to always ask in troubleshooting is "what changed between
the time things worked and the time they didn't?" so ask yourself that
also.

"sorry for the inconvenience" must be one of the understatements of all time
in the computer world. I suspect that if the program responsible for
running the GUI under Windoze needs to close down, this is far more than a
simple "inconvenience". MickeyMouse sure can treat their customers like
dupes, can't they? Disgusting.

I do hope you find a solution to this problem. I can't offer one, as the
operating system I choose to do my important work on doesn't come up with
such silliness as "inconveniences" like this. It just works and continues
to work once installed.

Malke, this is what I am getting from the detailed report other than a very
long message that is sent to MS. AppName: explorer.exe AppVer:
6.0.2900.2180 ModName: explorer.exe
ModVer: 6.0.2900.2180 Offset: 000139f8
The event viewer shows this when I log on,
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: explorer.exe
ModVer: 6.0.2900.2180 Offset: 000139f8
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: explorer.exe
ModVer: 6.0.2900.2180 Offset: 000139f8
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: explorer.exe
ModVer: 6.0.2900.2180 Offset: 000139f8
This is on the application error portion of the viewer. I hope this helps.
Let me know what else you may need.

All this says is that Explorer is crashing. I already told you what else
I would need to help you:

So, since you apparently can get into Safe Mode to run the Event Viewer,
do the malware scanning. If that fixes the issue fine. If not, do the
hardware troubleshooting. The last question "what changed" is the First
Question to answer in troubleshooting.
