explorer window freezes with active-x download

Everytime I try to install an active-x anything (i.e. updating microsoft word
or anything else from microsoft) it freeze. It's very annoying because it
tells me to fix the "hang" by download the update, but the update requires me
to use microsofts download active-x program, and so it's a big catch 22! Any
help out there?

i get this problem also.. if you find the resolution, let me know via email.
damn i/e sucks.
