i use explorer all the time to navigate through my files.
but everytime i open explorer it opens automatically to the Start Menu
folder which I guess is the designated default folder.
How can I change this to a folder of my choice?

Basically, all you need do is modify the target field of your
Windows Explorer shortcut to point where you want it.

For instance, "%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e ,c:\" (without the quotes)
would open Windows Explorer at the root of the C:\ drive.
Alternatively, you could create a shortcut with a target of
"%windir%\explorer.scf."
