I shift-deleted over 10 big folders (all larger than 1gig in size) together
with all their contents (files) but didn't get the space back in the C:
drive. After I discovered this I tried reloading a folder with the same
files and found out that deleting all the files in the folder and deleting
the folder with its files didn't yield the same space back in C:. deleting
the files gives me all the space back but deleting the folder with the files
gives me nothing. So I still don't know how to get the 15 gigs space back
from the previously shift-deleted folders and files. What should I do to get
the space back?

Shift-Del shouldn't have put them in the recycle bin. My question is, do you
have Norton Anti-Virus Pro, or Systemworks, or similar, installed? That adds
a "Protected" layer to the recycle bin that catches EVERYTHING. Right-click
