After installing XP SP3 on several machines I have found the same problem on
all of them - Windows Search can no longer find a numeric string inside a
file - it only works if the search string contains one or more letters.
For example, if you create a new Excel spreadsheet on the desktop, put
12345678 in one cell and testsearch in another cell, save the file, then use
search to find a word or phrase in the file, it works when you look for
'testsearch' but not if you look for 12345678. This did used to work for
numbers in SP2! To be clear, I am talking about searching within files, not
searching just for a filename.
If anyone has two minutes to try the above I would appreciate it - I know my
Dell notebook and plenty of identical HP desktops display the same problem
but I'd be interested to hear if it affects all hardware. Also if anyone
has a fix (other than reverting to SP2...) I would be more than grateful -
careful googling has so far yielded nothing ;-)
Thanks in advance!
