How do I have all the items that are listed in the explorer window defaulted
to "Details" all the time and the Arrrangement to "By Type", so everytime
that I open any folder the items within it are listed as these defaults?

1. Browse to any folder of your choice.
2. Setup this view the way you'd like things to default as you described
below.
3. Click Tools
4. Click Folder Options
5. Click the View tab
6. "Remember each folder's view settings" = FALSE
7. Click Like Current Folder.
8. Click Yes.
9. Click OK

That should get you around this "feature" which I also disable.
