While logged in as a normal user, I start Microsoft Desktop File Explorer
and then terminate it. The process that runs Explorer is not terminating.
I'm not referring the default desktop process that is always supposed to run
for a user login, but to the additional Explorer process that runs just for
the Explorer application. All attempts to start new instances of Explorer
then hang and fail to draw the Explorer window.
I am able to get into Task Manager and terminate the hanging application.
At that point I can start the Explorer application again.
My question is why would Explorer be hanging in the first place? What
corrections can I make to system settings to allow it to terminate
gracefully?
