Explorer problems

Am having problems with windows explorer, internet
explorer, outlook express and control panel. The gray
menu bar containing file, view, favourites ect. covers
most of the display vertically. The other toolbars below
this are normal height. But the output window is very
small, about 5-10 pixels. Is there a registry entry
controlling the height of the top menu bar.
Many thanks in advanced.

But, it should change via UI itself. What theme you're using? Have you tried switching to WindowsClassic and them back to XP Theme?

Looked at the registry. Values do change, but explorer
etc. do not change appearance. Values in registry seem to
be multiplied by -15, so should see a value for
menuheight at more than 11250.
Changed themes but not difference.
Would it help to reinstall something??

A dash here means twips. There are 20 twips to the point and 72 points to an inch (and I live in a metric country and know this). So 1 twip is 1/1440th of an inch. But this is a screen inch. If your resolution is 960 pixels (bear with me - it makes the maths easy) horonzontal and the DPI is 96 then it is 10 inches (254 mm) horonzontal. That is 10" on a 14" monitor and 10" on a 21" monitor.

In specifing icons a dash means it is the resource number while a positive number is the nth icon.

I thought it may have been set on the side (I don't see any reason it can't end up there in error). I tried office where menus can be dragged. It became vertical (hard to read). But Office doesn't use real menus (they are custom toolbars that look like menus) so windows menus mightn't work the same.

Is Doug's the same as Kelly's. Has you nuked the browser toolbar reg key?

Looked at the registry. Values do change, but explorer
etc. do not change appearance. Values in registry seem to
be multiplied by -15, so should see a value for
menuheight at more than 11250.
Changed themes but not difference.
Would it help to reinstall something??

But, it should change via UI itself. What theme you're
using? Have you tried switching to WindowsClassic and
them back to XP Theme?

Hi David,

Right-click Desktop, Properties, Appearance, Advanced
Select "Icon" and set it to 19 (or even lower value)

Am having problems with windows explorer, internet
explorer, outlook express and control panel. The gray
menu bar containing file, view, favourites ect. covers
most of the display vertically. The other toolbars
below
this are normal height. But the output window is very
small, about 5-10 pixels. Is there a registry entry
controlling the height of the top menu bar.
Many thanks in advanced.

Doug's fix also deletes ITBarLayout under the WebBrowser key. As you said (in private), backing up and deleting the "Toolbar" key itself might help. Interesting problem though!

Apart from running SFC /Scannow with the XP CD in, I have no further ideas. Would be interested to hear from the boss DavidC. System Restore might help if the problem is recently seen, but the cause cannot be determined.

registered browseui.dll, reports it succeeded.
could not find browselc.dll on XP cd is there a possible
download site for this file?
Is it worth replacing other dll files?
-----Original Message-----
The DLL can be registered by typing regsvr32 <dll name>

regsvr32 /i browseui.dll (from Start, Run dialog)

Can you delete the browselc.dll and extract it again from XP CD?

and
do you get any errors such as (mussing browselc.dll or
