Explorer not working on startup

Whenever I log in to any name on my computer Explorer starts but it doesn't
work. It doesn't show my desk top or start menu or anything, so I have to
press Control Alt Delete and go to run task from there to start firefox to
get help. The explorer process is open, but it doesn't do anything.
I just formatted my hard drive and installed Windows XP Home from a brand
new install disk. What is wrong with Windows?

Do you have a CD in any of your Cdrom drives? If yes then remove and
see what happens.
