When I attempt to use my Internet Explorer to dial-up an
internet provider, even though my username and password
are correct (I have checked this carefully), I am
disconnected from the ISP because and here is the wording
of the error exactly; "Access was denied because the
username and/or password was invalid on the domain". I
know the modem/dial-up is connecting, I can hear it and
see it connect, it hangs-up because it does not recognize
my username/password. This has happened with two
different ISP's. The first ISP spent days with me on the
phone trying to rectify the problem, but it did not work.
Now here I am again trying to get Earthlink as a ISP and
they can't figure out what to do either. The only way I
can access the internet is by using Compuserve because
they have their own browser. At the top of my screen when
I pull up my Internet Explorer are the words; "about:
blank-E-Guys.com Internet Explorer". I think the browser
has been corrupted by E-Guys software but I cannot get it
off my computer. I would give almost anything to solve
this. I need to get away from Compuserve, they are
failing fast.
My computer is Hewlett Packard, with windows Xp, I run
Norton firewall and anti-virus and I disabled them in
order to install the ISP software ( have reinstalled
twice-this is not the problem). I do not have a virus, I
am totally up to date on all Microsoft updates, I just
downloaded/installed XP sp1-a and latest explorer pack.

Have you tried deleting the connection and creating a new one from scratch?
I have seen the become corrupted before! You might want to
delete>reboot>recreate new one just for good measure.

I did try deleting and recreating-didn;t work, just now I
added pop3 and smtp information and entered a DNS server
number for earthlink, still not working and my explorer
is still corrupted, it still says; E-guys.com. Now I am
going to try reinstall or repair internet explore, it
scares me and I still need to know how to log on as an
administrator to follow the directions, does anyone know
how to log on as an administrator?.

You just need to modify the properties of your dial-up
"Connectoid". Apparently, you have an option to login
to a Domain (Corporate Network) checked.
Open Network Connections, Properties (of your dial
up) and check for any login type options. I haven't used
Dial up in ages, so I don't remember the exact verbiage
for the option.

I wish you were correct, sadly, I already unchecked that
box and it did not supply the solution

Try this - Boot to Safe Mode with Networking. Try to
connect to your ISP. Before hand, modify the Connectoid
and remove any username or password and just let it
prompt you. You have a very intriguing problem.

No kidding I have been working on this for days, hope you
are still here, I pulled up the instructions from my own
help for how to go into safe mode, the instructions are
incorrect, they tell me to click: start/shut
down/restart/ok, and then when I see a message that
says "please select the operating system to start, press
F8", Only problem THERE IS NO MESSAGE LIKE THAT! I have
been crawling thru my manual trying to figure out how to
go into safe mode. Thank you for being kind to me.

Safe Mode keystroke is F8. You press it between the time
your BIOS or OEM screen appears and the Scrolling XP
logo starts. Sometimes it is necessary to Press F8 several
times. If you see the XP Logo, you have passed the watch
period where it detects F8 so you will need to Restart and
try again.

I got it to safe/networking mode by hitting F8 approx. 2
times per second as it was rebooting, (earlier thread by
ron). Was very sorry to discover I could not get it to
let me try to dial out in safe mode. Back to square one
so to speak. As I do not own a blank disc, I will have to
buy one and back up my registry before I pull out the big
guns and reinstall/repair Internet Explorer in Windows
XP. I have been on this since 9 this am and am beat, got
to go recuperate now, thank you everyone.
