Internet Explorer browser corrupted

Hello, please help me if you can, I have been working on this problem for countless days/hours/months
When I attempt to use my Internet Explorer to dial-up an internet provider, even though my username and password are correct (I have checked this carefully), I am disconnected from the ISP because and here is the wording of the error exactly; "Access was denied because the username and/or password was invalid on the domain". I know the modem/dial-up is connecting, I can hear it and see it connect, it hangs-up because it does not recognize my username/password. This has happened with two different ISP's. The first ISP spent days with me on the phone trying to rectify the problem, they did some advanced changes on my computer-I am not sure what, but it did not work. Now here I am again trying to get Earthlink as a ISP and they can't figure out what to do either. The only way I can access the internet is by using Compuserve because they have their own browser. At the top of my screen when I pull up my Internet Explorer are the words; "about: blank-E-Guys.com Internet Explorer". I think the browser has been corrupted by E-Guys software but I cannot get it off my computer. I would give almost anything to solve this. I need to get away from Compuserve, they are failing fast
My computer is Hewlett Packard, with windows Xp, I run Norton firewall and anti-virus and I disabled them in order to install the ISP software ( have reinstalled twice-this is not the problem). I do not have a virus, I am totally up to date on all Microsoft updates, I just downloaded/installed XP sp1-a. I tried to uninstall "internet explorer" and when I restarted my computer, just ended up with 2 "internet explorers" the second one has a (1) behind it
I am desperate, I cannot afford to spend money on this

Hello Nikki,

Your ISPs should have advised you to repair your browser. If you need instructions in english then I suggest print this document and read it through once and then follow the instructions line by line. In particular, you need to repair IE6 by following Method two.

The link is:

Hope his helps and let us know if it worked so that other users might find it useful.

I tried the explorer fix for internet protocol, it did
not work. I tried entering safe mode/networking to see if
the problem was still there, but it would not let me
attempt to dialout. I tried unchecking "windows logon
domain". I am now down to trying the reinstall/repair
internet explorer but I have to purchase a blank disc
with which to backup my files first. Thank you for trying
to help me, after over 12 hours of this problem today, I
must rest and try again Monday.

Find out from the expert if you have some malware that can be eliminated.

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

If you get a 404 error or Access denied, try:
http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, then copy and paste both files in your message.

This may help in cleaning up the e-guys Title bar.

But will not remove any registry entry that the malware may have installed.

MPC,

You are giving links to a relatively old hotfix for a module which has been
recently replaced by a newer version (e.g. in patch 831167).

In fact, the symptom description for 831167 sounds closer to Nikki's
symptom description than the one for 324898. For one thing, I don't
think that proxy has even been mentioned (unless that is something which
is implied by having that ISP involved.)

However, she claims to be "totally up to date on all Microsoft updates"
so I think that the first thing to do before advising her to install anything
is to *ask* what version of wininet.dll she has now. Getting her IE
maintenance listed could also be a good idea to verify her claim
and act as a consistency check on the module version she reports.
E.g. ask for the results from

javascript:navigator.minorAppVersion
