explorer.exe

When my friend turns on his pc he has no desktop icons or toolbar at the
bottom of the screen. This all occured after installing windows updates. I
was told that i should go to the task manager and create a new process
"explorer.exe", when you type this in and hit return a pop up comes up saying
Windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close, you can either
click on debug or close. debug just leaves the desktop blank and close turns
off the pc.

Any help would be really appreciated, cheers!

Instead of creating the process "explorer.exe", create this one
"%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe" it will open the system restore
utilitie, use this to go back in time, before you install your updates.

good luck!
