explorer.exe

Okay, I've recently had to reinstall Windows XP Home for
various reasons. Windows is completely updated, as is my
firewall and antivirus (Sygate PF and Norton
respectively). However, explorer.exe continually
crashes - whenever I open up windows explorer, it's hit
or miss as to whether it will all freeze. When it
freezes, I tell it to end the process and everything
reloads fine, and then there's no problem for a good hour
or so (it may last longer, I don't know becuase I
frequently have to reboot whilst reinstalling all my
programs). If I haven't opened windows explorer though,
sometimes explorer.exe will just crash of its own accord,
and forcably reload the desktop and start bar - without
even saying it's encountered an error and needs to
close. This is becoming *extremely* annoying now, as it
means I can't really use the computer how I want any
more. All the information that I can gather about the
crashes is this:

The application, C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE, generated an
application error. The exception generated was 80000007
at address 00000000 ()

I can't find any other help on the internet about it, and
all virus scans and system scans have come up saying my
computer is in perfect condition and virus free.
