I upgraded a machine from Win2k to XP which went ok. After a couple of
restarts, the computer now restarts explorer.exe when I click on "My
Documents", "My Computer" or "Control Panel" ... most of the shortcuts on the
startbar to be honest.

I'm pretty sure its explorer.exe, as when I click on the shortcut, the
taskbar and everything on the desktop disappears for about 2 seconds then
reappears (as if explorer has closed, then started again). Pressing WinKey+E
does the same aswell.

The only way to get to "My Computer", "My Documents", "Control Panel" or any
disk drive, is to open IE then type the drive letter into the address bar.

I've searched plenty of site, but not found anything related. Also no virus
scanner or any programs of that sort have picked anything up ... yet.

Maybe check event viewer to see if there is any info in there since there is
no real error message to go on. Boot to safe mode to see if it works in
there. If it does work ok, perhaps try a clean boot using msconfig to see if
it is something third party is crashing explorer.

If it went OK, then why the niggle?

Best to install any NEW OS fresh. ie NOT to do an upgrade.

The machine works fine in safe mode, think I'll try the clean boot.

The reason for the upgrade is a friend of mine doesnt have the discs for the
software which is installed, so a fresh OS install went out of the window (I
would of prefered to do a clean install myself, but ho hum)
