The explorer.exe process crashing when attempting to use the classic Windows
Search (default OS search feature) on WXP Home SP2. I had the full MSN Search
Toolbar and had the Windows Desktop Search installed (v. 2.05.0001.1119).
It always fails when i try to do a search "A Word or Phrase in the File"
on the first attempt (after a fresh boot). -- explorer.exe crashes ("Faulting
application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module unknown,
version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x7d9ccc27." - not very helpful) & Windows
suggests about Data Execution Prevention (DEP) being the cause of having
to close this process. Not so, I have tried setting explorer.exe as an
exception to DEP rules, no luck...
a. Start menu, Search, Start "contains" search -- explorer.exe crashes
adventually
I have since then uninstalled the msn search bar, and the windows desktop
search and had no success correcting the issue. Is there a fix? Is there
bad registry data that I need to remove in order to correct the problem???
thanks ahead for any assistance.
Matt.
p.s. I have posted this already and have had no luck or additional solutions
offered, please, I really need help on this one.
