Explorer.exe crash on drive right-click

J

Joel.Allan

While in explorer, right-clicking any drive causes an explorer crash
with the following error message:

"explorer.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "XXXXXXXXXX" referenced memory at "XXXXXXXXXX". The
memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program"

The X's are any character, which changes each time.

After awhile of looking, It seems that this error message is quite
common, ranging from visual studio bugs to problems displaying avi
previews.

I gathered that this situation has occured from a DivX and SP2
compatability issue which would happen for right clicking ANYWHERE in
explorer. The problem being the menu add-ins that the DivX program
would add (Like winamp or winzip).

My question.... Is there any way to view what programs are trying to
embed themselves into the drive right click menus? Registry values or
something?

Appriciate any input on the matter.

Yes. Use a program like ShellExView.

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers:

Right-click is extremely slow only when Network is enabled:
