explorer.exe and IExplorer.exe using 100% of CPU

Hello,
Just yesterday I encountered a problem with Windows XP Home
Edition that seemed to have just randomly started occuring.
Every time I try to open up My computer or My documents or
view the contents of any folder for that matter,
explorer.exe begins bogging down the system with 100% CPU
usage. This also occured when I attempted to open up
Internet Explorer; IEXPLORER.exe took up 100% CPU.
Fortunately I do not rely on IE to search the web, but
unfortunately Microsoft makes it a pain to download the
latest bug fixes for IE without running IE. I can,
however, get into safe mode and everything runs fine. I
have tried to disable all start up files but that didn't
help and neither did shutting down explorer.exe and
starting it up again. Ran Spybot and TrojanHunter with no
avail. Any help is greatly appreciated.
(I am also not an ubernerd so any restraint used to not get
too complicated is also greatly appreciated). Thanks :)!

Is your Spybot version 1.3 with the latest updates or is it version
1.2? If it is 1.2 then you need to get version 1.3 plus the latest
updates and run it again.

What antivirus are you using? Is it fully up to date with the virus
definitions not more than a week old? Have you done a complete virus
scan recently.

Try the free online spyware check at http://aumha.org/a/noads.htm

Good luck

.
Have you ran an updated scan for viruses, worms, trojan
horses, as well as scanning for adware/ spyware too ? And
run the disk cleanup tool to remove the temp files.
