Explorer! error box

My husband brought his work computer home and every time he tries to
bring up a windows explorer window, control panel, etc. he gets a tiny
error box with the nondescript message "Explorer!". He then must close
it before the requested window appears.

I've run several spyware apps and antivirus, disk repair, all MS
updates and we still have this problem. Any ideas?

That reads like a firewall or other blocking software alerting you to
Explorer attempting to access the internet, or possibly just start. But
to make sure it isn't a damaged system file: Click Start, Run, type SFC
/SCANNOW, click OK. If any files are damaged or missing, they'll be
replaced. You may need to reboot afterwards so damaged files will be
replaced.
