Anytime I try to start up Windows Explorer or Internet
Explorer, they crash.
"explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows. you will need to restart the program.
An error log is being created
(OK button)"
is the popup message box I get when I try to open My
Computer, Windows Explorer, if I try to find a file using
Winkey+F.
oddly enough, I created a shortcut to C:/ and can browse
through my files that way. If I open My Documents, it
works fine, until I try to open "My Computer", at which
point I get the above message popup box.
If I try to open up Internet Explorer, I get that popup
box that says "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered
a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience."
Then it gives you the opportunity to send an error report
to Microsoft.
I don't have these problems when I boot in safe mode.
What the heck can I do about this? This makes it pretty
darn difficult to do much at all with the computer.
Is there a way I can "repair" Windows or some such, so
that it goes back in and repairs any files that got
corrupted or something?
Any help greatly appreciated. This is my son's computer,
he needs it for homework. bleh.....driving me crazy, too!
thanks a lot.
