I am having Windows explorer crahing a lot lately. The last one says this:
Windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. ...
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName: shell32.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2900.3051 Offset: 0003762d

and there should be a file containing more info at
C:\DOCUME~1\Daniel\LOCALS~1\Temp\4d84_appcompat.txt

However, this file is nowhere to be found. Is there a way to have this
Windows Explorer stop crashing?

Thank you
Daniel

What specific anti-spyware programmes are you using?

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
