Explorer crash when .mpg is clicked

Windows Explorer crashes whenever I click on a .mpg video
file. Right now I need to use the command prompt to move
or delete these files. They are not bad files - I have
tried lots of different files, and they all crash
Explorer when clicked. I can open .mpg files in Win
Media Player and they play fine. Any ideas?

If you locate your audio & video files in the Windows XP "My Music" folder, and not open
them in Windows Explorer, you will not eXPerience this issue.

Sounds like a file type association problem. Try this.
In control panel, open folder options. Click on the "File
Types tab". Scroll down and find mpg under extensions. If
you click on it once it will tell you what program should
be used to start it. If other than media player then click
on the delete button. Then just browse to a mpg file and
right click on it. When the menu pops up select open with
then find media player and make sure there is a check mark
in the box that send always use this program..

All done This usually happens when someone installs a
third party media interface then remove it.

I double-checked, and .mpg and .mpeg are already set up
in "File Types" to use Windows Media Player.

Thanks for the tip. I went to the knowledge base
article, and it doesn't exactly describe my problem. I
don't have any problems with .avi files, even very large
ones. (I have a 40GB .avi that I can play from Explorer
with no problems.) It is only with .mpg, large or
small. Also, it's not that Windows stops responding, but
Windows Explorer stops. (I get to send Windows an error
report if I wish, then I can start Explorer again.) So
I'm not sure this hotfix will do anything for me.
