Explore.exe error during TCP/IP port setup

Kevin

W2kpro, sp4. Attempted to create TCP/IP port when setting
up new printer on client pc. After typing IP address into
box in tcp/ip port wizard and hitting next I received a
message that explorer.exe has had an error and is creating
an error report. Event viewer reports the following:

The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list
too many times on \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{1EE4AC8C-DA7E-4F59-
BA5a-02D814BFBDA9}. The backup browser is stopping.

Also tried to create the port through
start/settings/printers/file/server properties/ports/add
port with the same result.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Kevin

I have seen this happen when the SNMP binaries are replaced by another
application. Use sfc /scannow in a cmd window to replace swapped system
binaries or check in the WINNT and WINNT\system32 directories and verify
snmpapi.dll and wsnmp32.dll are from microsoft.

I have also seen where a the WINNT directory is inserted into the path
before system32 and the application throws their snmpapis into WINNT.

Yikes. I have been seeing this problem as well. SNMP
binaries are originals. Still having problem. Additional
info:
When I install HP Network Printer installer, there is a
new port that shows up: HP Standard TCP/IP Port
I get a different error - Instead of explorer quitting,
the HP installer quits. Same problem when I let the HP
installer do its thing.

This happened to me last year on another computer at
another location. The only way I recovered was by wiping
Windows 2000 and starting again. I am trying to avoid
this. We CAN'T be the only two people in the universe
seeing this problem.

Anyone else had experience solving this?
