exploerer.exe exception faults when prininting

I am currently trying to remedy a printing issue
I am trying to print to a shared printer (hp 4000) on a
windows 98 pc (it has worked for months)
when I reboot the pc it will print one time, then on the
next print command I get the following errors

c:\winnt\explorer.exe
function address 0x2dc40ea caused a protection fault
(exception code 0xc0000005) some or all pages may not be
displayed, I updated the drivers and also tried using hp
III drivers. I removed all ports and drivers from the
Server properties and still no luck

I have searched the Microsoft knowledge base but no joy
I have also updated to SP4 with all critical updates and
no joy

The idea is to get rid of Windows 98 and install Windows 2000 on your other
computer.

Another idea is to buy a print server. I bought me INTEL InBusiness print
server on eBay for $17 plus S&H, brand new, works well.
