Explaination of Manage my profile in Internet Explorer

When I registered Windows XP Professional I gave them my POP3 email address
from ISP. Then I loaded MSN Messenger and signed up for new free hotmail
account. On some pages in Internet Explorer there is an option to 'Manage
My Profile'. If I go to that, sign in with Passport when prompted, there is
no name or email info there?

What is the correlation between the email address you give when registering
XP, and the 'Manage My Profile info that you sign into with passport? I
started to update the profile info with hotmail email (I put my POP3 as
alternate when I signed up for new hotmail account) but now I am not sure
which email address to put there or exactly what the correlation is between
the registration and signing in with passport profile???

Yoy can create any number of .net Passports. You should create one for the
name you used when registering as well as your hotmail one.

I am confused. I thought that a Pop3 account would no longer register as a
NetPassport. I thought it had to be either a hotmail account or MSN email
account. I did try to log into passport after registering with the Pop3
account and it would not sign me in. I just kept getting a message that
said something like please enter a valid email address--can't remember the
exact message.

When I registered for the hotmail account, I put the Pop3 account as an
alternate email address.

None at all. The registration info goes into a Marketing database. You
then have to sign up for a passport to use either Windows Messenger or
MSN Messenger. They will work with the same passport, and that you can
then use from any machine
