Expired date to register windows xp

Hi, I purchased windows xp for a family friend and he
neglected to register it during the 30 days time, the main
reason was that the phone number given in the system did
not work and he does not have internet service. Now he is
unable to use his laptop. How can this be remedied? he
is also in Jamaica West Indies and the phone number given
does not work. Please help.

Is a repair install going to help? Windows will look at the date the OS was installed the first time, which is past the 30 days
that it needed activation.

He's gonna need to either call, activate using a internet connection, or do a clean install of XP (which will give him another 30 days to activite).
