Excel won't open shortcuts

I can open the same file in Excel but not as a shortcut.
Any suggestions?

I am having this same user. I upgraded a user to Office XP and then outlook 2k3 from office 2k sr-1. I ran all applicable patches from the office update site. My user is now unable to open any excel spreadsheets via a shortcut. She can open any of the files if she uses excel to browse to the files. .XLS files appear to be associated with Excel. I have upgraded many other users in the same manner and have never run into this issue. Any help would be appreciated!

First try the standard fix(es)......Tools>Options>General uncheck "ignore
other applications"

OR Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes and note the space before the /
mark).

You may have to enter your full path to excel.exe....in that case surround
with quotes as in..... "C:\mypath\to Excel\somewhere\excel.exe" /regserver

Thanks, 1st option worked fine, just don't understand how
that is the only machine with that option ticked, even
though I reinstalled Office + all the patches.
